PHYSIOTHERAPY REHABILITATION & SPORTS MEDICINE CLINIC

Adults ignore minor aches, avoid exercises, and have an improper diet which results in disability years later. Obesity is one of the leading factors leading to joint pain these days. One must not use temporary measures such as ointments, pain killers or massages, but seek specialist's advice and treat the causative factors. Bone density decreases with age, muscles get weaker and discs get thinner. These changes occur as natural wear and tear of the body but can be slowed down if we start exercising, have a balanced diet and some lifestyle modifications. Bones get brittle due to unhealthy lifestyle, physical inactivity, poor exposure to sunlight, smoking and drinking.
OSTEOPOROSIS: It is a silent disease which gradually weakens bones leading to painful and debilitating fragility and fractures. Alcohol, vitamin D deficiency, smoking, malnutrition, low calcium intake, poor eating habits, prolonged use of steroids and sedentary life style can be blamed for the rising cases of osteoporosis. In women, hormonal changes after menopause, genetic predisposition and woman who are on steroids are at a higher risk of developing osteoporosis.
Tips to keep bones strong a) stay alert from a young age. Get a bone density test done once in a while to check bone strength and if any medical intervention is needed b) include adequate amount of calcium in your diet. Milk, yoghurt, cheese, cereals and nuts like almonds are recommended. Consult a doctor and take calcium supplements especially after pregnancy or a major illness c) spend 15 mins in the sun at least thrice a week. Indians are found highly deficient in vitamin D d) exercise regularly to keep bones and muscles healthy. Do weight bearing exercises to strengthen bones, walk and jog every day e) avoid smoking & excessive alcohol consumption. The process of healing is said to be slow among people who smoke & drink excessive alcohol.
Mal alignment of vertebra causes bio mechanical imbalance due to bad posture, muscle weakness or imperfect ergonomics. Trigger points in muscles occur due to constant contraction of muscle fibres in incorrect position. Discogenic back pain occurs due to prolapse of disc between the vertebrae. Neurogenic back pain occurs when nerves are compressed because of excess pressure. Infection, malignancy, congenital or acquired abnormalities are other processes by which back pain may occur. Time for medical advice occurs a) when localized or diffused pain in back or neck does not resolve for more than a week b) when there is travelling, shooting or radiating pain from back to legs or neck to arm c) when there is tingling or numbness in arms or legs d) when there is stiffness in the back or neck in the morning e) when there is pain in the neck or back while one goes to bed f) when there is disturbed sleep because of pain g) when there is associated fever with back pain.
ERGONOMICS: Poor Posture may be caused by wrong habits from daily activities such as sitting on the office chair, staring at the computer, carrying a purse over the shoulder, driving, prolonged standing, caring for small children and sleeping. Poor postures can easily become second nature, causing and aggrevating episodes of back and neck pain and damaging spinal structures.
Steps to improve your posture & ergonomics & mdash; a) identifying the warning signs of back and neck pain caused by poor ergonomics and posture b) keep the body in alignment while sitting in an office chair and standing c) get up and move d) use posture friendly props and ergonomic office chairs while sitting e) use exercises to help prevent injury and promote good posture f) wear supportive footwear while standing g) remember good posture, ergonomics while in motion
Further you are adviced not to go through any surgery of joint pain as it may or may not be successful. Surgery should be the last resort because if it is not successful, it may lead to complications & side effects.
Hence, we treat and cure the patients non-surgically, with the most advanced techniques.
